"Having been raised only miles from the museum, I feel a strong affinity and connection to the surrounding places and people. The flat work will address the landscape and agricultural history of the region. Having been raised on a nearby wheat farm, this experience has continued to shape my practice. I intend to use photographs from a recent trip back to KS as a source for multi-media imagery that will be printed via multiple processes, both hand-pulled and digital. The piles of materials surrounding the buildings of our farm acted as a resource for my father, grandfather and great grandfather for the purpose of repairing, building and inventing various tools and objects as needed. I adopt a similar strategy in my own work. I am interested in highlighting this connection to agrarian and artistic practices through this exhibition." – Jon Swindler
